PROVENANCE

Pure steam-distilled oil of Melaleuca alternifolia.
An Iconic Australian Native Plant
Unique
There are many varieties of tea tree, but uniquely evidenced tea tree oil can only be distilled from plantations of Australia’s Melaleuca alternifolia.
Australian
Endemic to north-eastern NSW and south-east coastal Queensland, it is a small bushy tree or shrub from the myrtle family, existing in an unbroken chain for over 36,000 years.
An Australian Indigenous Medicine
Country
Wild Melaleuca alternifolia grows in Bundjalung Country, the lands of the groups and clans that make up the Bundjalung Nation.
Environment
Bundjalung Country was thickly forested with large freshwater lakes and swamps near the coast, bordered by successive mountain ranges, creating a unique environment for Melaleuca alternifolia to thrive.
Medicinal
Melaleuca alternifolia has been utilised for its medicinal properties by the people of the Bundjalung Nation for thousands of years.
Australian Provenance
Location
Bundjalung Country spans southeast Queensland and the north coast and adjacent ranges of New South Wales, where Melaleuca alternifolia grows along streams and on swampy flats.
Origin
Provenanced tea tree is farmed in plantations across this region, as far south as Port Macquarie, as well as in North Queensland, to benefit from the specific climatic and soil features required to produce oils of true origin.
‘It’s not by chance that Melaleuca alternifolia originates from such a defined geographic area as it’s unique in every way.’
John Seccombe - ATTIA Board Director
