Antibacterial.

Acne.

Tea tree oil kills and inhibits Propionibacterium acnes, the acne-causing bacteria that infect the sebum glands. ˇ

5% tea tree oil gel has been demonstrated to reduce the amount and overall severity of acne, with no significant adverse effects. ˉ

5% tea tree oil gel was as effective as 5% benzoyl peroxide (a common acne medication) in reducing the number of inflamed and non-inflamed lesions, with fewer side effects. ˘

Antiseptic.

Tea tree oil can be used to treat and disinfect minor cuts and abrasions by killing S. aureus and other bacteria that can cause infection in open wounds. ˇ

Hand Wash.

Tea tree oil makes an effective natural hand sanitiser as it kills several common bacteria and viruses responsible for causing illness, including E. coli, S. pneumoniae, and H. influenzae. ˇ

Oral Care.

Tea tree oil has proven efficacy against common oral pathogens such as S. aureus, E. faecalis, E. coli and C. albicans, and has better antimicrobial performance than standard oral antiseptics. ☨ ☦︎ 

Pure Australian tea tree oil is a mainstay in many oral care products within the natural products industry. Products include toothpastes, mouthwashes, dental floss, toothpicks, gum gels, and breath fresheners. 

Like other mouthwashes, tea tree oil should not be swallowed. It can be toxic if ingested.

Antifungal.

Tea tree oil has been shown to be as effective against fungal nail infections as the antifungal medication clotrimazole, with fewer side effects. ♰

Tinea Pedis (athletes foot).

Studies suggest that tea tree oil may be an effective alternative to antifungal medications for relieving the symptoms of athlete’s foot. ⚜︎ ⋂ ⋲

Anti-Dandruff Shampoo.

Tea tree oil has demonstrated antifungal activity against Malassezia species, which may be beneficial in the treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis, which can lead to dandruff. ⋉

Anti-Inflammatory.

Demodex Blepharitis.

Tea tree oil (in a very diluted format) is commonly used to treat Demodex blepharitis, inflammation around the eyes and eyelids related to Demodex mites. ⨅

Antiviral.
