AgriFutures Australia Projects Article Date: 20 May 2020

The AgriFutures Tea Tree Oil Program is currently has two exciting opportunities for researchers. AgriFutures is seeking services for two request for quotations:

A scoping study into sustainable invertebrate pest and disease management in tea tree oil plantations.

No one has ever comprehensively surveyed, collated and published a report on the pests and diseases of tea trees. While we know a lot about some of the issues facing a producer we need to know what problems are being encountered and have concrete proposals on how best to develop the knowledge needed to allow producers to manage pests and diseases with confidence.
The aim of this project is to deliver exactly that - a summary of the issues and proposals on how this can be managed. To optimise production
It is not intended to be a ‘how to’ manual of all pests and diseases though this may be one of the recommendations that come out of the project.

A scoping study into sustainable nutrition for productive tea tree oil plantations.

Similar to the pests & diseases project above this is intended to provide a road map for the whole of industry to answer a simple question that is constantly near the top of the “must haves” when producers are surveyed.
Put simply the question is ‘what nutrition does a tea tree need to cost-effectively maximise biomass and therefore oil yield in a variety of situations?’
Again this is not intended to be a ‘how to’ manual though that is the ultimate goal which may be many years away from being realised.
