Botanical Adulterants Bulletin on Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia and M. linariifolia) Oil Article Date: 26 Aug 2017

The American Botanical Council (ABC) has released a Botanical Adulterants Bulletin on TTO. This document, which was developed with the cooperation of ATTIA, provides information on issues of adulteration and mislabeling of tea tree oil (TTO), in particular with Eucalyptus oils, as well as essential oils of other Melaleuca species not declared in the Australian (AS 2782) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 4730 norms.

THis is a valuable guidance document which will be followed in due course by a more detailed Laboratory Guidance Document (LGD) providing detailed information on how chiral and GC analysis can be best used to detect adulteration.
